Is your home feeling outdated or cramped? Are you starting to feel like your style and needs don’t match what your house is currently offering? These are all common signs that it may be time to consider a remodel or addition to your home. At RJ Turner Remodeling, we have been helping homeowners near Winston-Salem, NC, transform their homes for over 20 years. Today, we are sharing some of the top signs that your home may be ready for a remodeling project.

Your Family Has Grown

If your family has grown since you first purchased your home, it may be time to consider an addition. A larger family needs more space to live comfortably, and sometimes that means extending the home to accommodate everyone. Adding an extra bedroom or bathroom can not only provide more space for your family but increase the value of your home as well.

You Want to Update Your Home Style

Styles and trends change over time, and sometimes that means our homes start to feel outdated or out of place. A remodel can help refresh your home’s style to match your current tastes. New countertops, cabinets, or even a new paint color can completely transform a space.

Your Home Needs Repairs

If your home is in need of repairs, a remodel may be the perfect solution. Whether it’s a leaky roof or outdated electrical wiring, a remodel can not only fix the problem but also provide an opportunity to update and improve your home’s overall function.

You Need More Space for Entertaining

Are you tired of cramped, uncomfortable, or outdated spaces for hosting guests? A remodel can help create a new entertainment hub perfect for hosting get-togethers both big and small. Additions like a new patio or larger living room can create a more welcoming environment for your friends and family.

You Want to Increase Your Home’s Value

Finally, if you are considering selling your home in the near future, a remodel can help increase its value. Upgrading your kitchen or adding a deck can all add value to your home and attract potential buyers. The right remodel can also make your home stand out from other homes on the market and fetch a higher selling price.

Project Feature:

A recent project completed by RJ Turner Remodeling involved transforming an outdated basement into a modern, functional space for a local family. The team at RJ Turner Remodeling worked closely with the homeowners to create a functional and beautiful space that met their specific needs.

Basement

This basement remodel resulted in an 864-square-foot space with:

  • 1 Bedroom
  • 1 Office
  • 1 Full Bath
  • 1 Living Area
  • 1 Kitchenette
  • 1 Laundry Room
  • 1 Storage Room
  • 1 Mechanicals Room

When you observe the area in front of the back door, you will notice a set of steps leading downwards, with a door on the left. In the after pictures, you will observe that we made changes to the entrance’s orientation to align better with the driveway, and also to accommodate the construction of a deck. Additionally, we installed an interior French drain to safeguard her investment in case any water seeps through the block foundation wall.

Deck

RJ Turner Remodeling enhanced the aesthetics of the deck by treating the decking boards and handrails with sleek black aluminum balusters. Taking a closer look at the back of the house before the remodeling, you’ll notice two windows on the second floor, towards the far left. Those windows previously belonged to the kitchen area. However, we made the thoughtful decision to omit those windows and instead installed a sliding door, providing convenient access to the deck.

To brighten up the kitchen, we added a new window on the right side of the house. If you’re facing the deck, the window will be on the wall to the left of it. The deck has also been stained and sealed to match the color scheme of the house, creating a cohesive and visually appealing outdoor space for the homeowners to enjoy.

Additional Renovations

RJ Turner Remodeling provided additional renovations to the home, including:

  • Chimney removal
    • This enabled us to trace the path of the ductwork all the way down to the basement. It also provided us with the opportunity to utilize the negative space within the chimney to vent the basement bathroom.
  • New Hardie Siding
  • Painted the exterior of the home
  • New front door
  • New basement door
